Bike Patrol

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department Bicycle Patrol Unit was formed in 2005 as part of the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department’s commitment to community-based policing.

Community Policing

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department embraces a philosophy known as Community Oriented Policing (C.O.P.).

Crime Scene Unit

The Crime Scene Technician (”C.S.T.”) Unit is comprised of members of the uniformed patrol division.

Crisis Negotiation Unit

The Crisis Negotiation Unit (C.N.U.) consists of police officers who work in various divisions within the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department.

Drug Recognition Experts

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department has a number of trained and certified Drug Recognition Experts.

Field Intelligence

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department Field Intelligence Office acts as a liaison between the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department and other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

Honor Guard

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department Honor Guard represents the department at official functions.

K-9 Unit

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police K-9 Unit was started in 1993 with the team of K-9 Kiowa and Officer Mike Burger.

In 2003, the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department instituted a Polygraph Unit by enrolling two members at the Pennsylvania State Police/Harrisburg Area Community College Polygraph Institute at the Northeast Counter Drug Training Institute.

School Resource Officer

The School Resource Officer (S.R.O.) Program is a proactive initiative based on prevention, education, and intervention where specially trained and experienced Police Officers are placed in schools on a full-time basis.

S.W.A.T.

Recognizing that the presence of a specially trained S.W.A.T. Team has been shown to substantially reduce the risk of injury or loss of life to citizens, police officers, and suspects.

Technology Operations

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department Technology Operations is staffed by two civilian members.

Training & Accreditation Unit

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department recognizes the importance of continual professional training.
