Field Intelligence
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department Field Intelligence Office acts as a liaison between the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department and other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
The primary objective of the Field Intelligence Office is the gathering of information and intelligence data, analyzing the data and then disseminating the gathered intelligence data to the various units within the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department. This intelligence data, in the form of Officer Safety and/or Intelligence Bulletins, may also be disseminated to other law enforcement agencies in order to enhance law enforcement’s detection and apprehension capabilities. The mantra of intelligence lead policing is to be proactive and not reactive. The best way to serve the citizens of the Town of Poughkeepsie is to prevent crime before it happens.
The Field Intelligence Officer is in daily contact with other law enforcement agencies to ensure "real time" sharing of information. Field Intelligence Office members attend regular meetings of the Dutchess County Field Intelligence Group, where other F.I.O.s meet and share information. The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Field Intelligence Office works closely with various local, state and federal agencies such as:
- Federal Bureau of Investigation
- Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms
- New York State Police Counter Terrorism Investigations Unit
- Office of Homeland Security
